Exit Advisory

Selling a business is hard.  80% of all owners who want to sell fail to do so.  Of the 20% who succeed in selling, 75% are unhappy a year after the sale.  These are dismal numbers.  It’s my mission to flip those numbers.  I help business owners do what is necessary to prepare themselves and their business so that they can exit with peak monetary reward and in accordance with the life values that they hold. 

 

There is a proven process for doing this.  Those who follow the process will succeed.  Together we will address the steps that most skip and in so doing sow the seeds for failure.  I will guide you through making a plan for significance after the sale and why that matters.  We’ll make sure that you know all your numbers; the value of your business, your current net worth and what you need to live a life of purpose.  And finally, we will address the items that will make the business itself both ready to sell and attractive to buyers.

 

The first two items are not directly related to the business – there’s a reason.  Those two things have an outsized impact on why owners fail to sell.  They’re not intuitive.  And because they’re not, most brokers and M&A advisors fail to deal with them.  We will.

 

It is my mission to flip the odds.  I’m passionate about this.  That passion is born out of having run small businesses and from making my attempts to purchase a number of businesses.  I have seen first hand how unprepared most owners were.  They have spent decades building a business, hoped that it would be a significant part of retirement only to discover that no one was buying, certainly not at a price that they had hoped for.  My heart breaks for them.

 

Having been part of many transactions throughout my career, I shifted my focus to this work.  In addition to my decades of business experience, I am a Certified Exit Planning Advisor accredited by the Exit Planning Institute.  It would be my honor to guide you to success.
